Two bodies become a temporary laboratory for exchange, circulation and microbial transformation.
Developed as part of AslieMk, the performance duo of Aslı Dinç and Mustafa Kemal Yurttaş, Secreted Functions uses TopLab, a DIY community bio-lab, as both stage and laboratory. Audiences observe an ongoing experiment in which the body is approached as a porous system shaped by contact and contamination.
Saliva and other body liquids are exchanged and sampled. The samples are placed in Petri dishes and later analysed with scientist and artist Mirela Alistar. Biological transformation becomes a way to investigate the unstable boundary between body, environment and technology.
Presented in the context of the Posthumanism Reading Group hosted by curator and art writer Tuçe Erel, the work continues AslieMk’s research into posthuman embodiment and hybrid systems.
